SALVAGER

Salvager

Using an engine made from the ground-up at university, we were tasked with using, modifying and expanding on this engine to create a 2D game of our choosing. Taking inspiration from classic games such as Asteroids, and spurned by the fun of gravity simulation in games such as Outer Wilds, Salvager sees players command a spacecraft, collect salvage to upgrade it, and ultimately grow so large as to destroy planets - all wrapped up in a gravity-driven chaotic arcade environment.

'Salvager' will be available to play soon!

See below for a demo video.

Physics Engines and the Chaos Theory

Minute-to-minute gameplay is driven by a custom physics engine. The game simulates frictionless movement in space, elastic collisions, energy transfer that equates to collision damage, among many other interesting articles - such as the simulation of gravity through Gravbombs. The chaos of physics invites emergent gameplay, where the interactions of numerous systems with one-another can lead to surprising gameplay events!
